1-Ibn Sina's life.

Childhood:-

Ibn Sina was a famous scientist, whose name is "Abu Ali Al-Husayn Abn Abdullah Abn Al-Hassan Abn Sina. He was born in 980A.D. in Afshanah near Bukhara. Now its in the republic of Uzbekistan. His father was born in Balkh and his mother was from a small village near Bukhara. His father worked with the Sultan, who was the king of that place at that time. His father took care of his education and encouraged him to learn medicine and the other sciences. His father told that known scientists who came to thier village to teach Ibn Sina. He lernt his philosophy by reading different books and learning logic and taking some other from Abdullah Natili, who was a famous scientist at that time. Ibn Sina started learning medicine when he was 13 years old and he mastered medicine and became a doctor.

Young man:-

He had a good luck because he cured the king of Bukhara Nooh Ibn Mansor who no doctors knew how to cures him. After the king got well Ibn Sina refused to take money from the king so the king told him to come to his full library to read any books he wanted to read. After his father died Ibn Sina left Bukhara and traveled to different cities, Jurjan, Ray, Hamadan and Isphahan. His first trip was to Jurjan, Ibn Sina cured the king of Jurjan and he met his famous man Al Biruni. Then he traveled to different cities including to Hamadan. The king of Hamadan appointed him to be a vizier and Ibn Sina accepted. Then he put Ibn Sina in the prison and in the same time the king become seek. Then he brought Ibn Sina to cure him and after the king got well he appointed Ibn Sina as a vizier again. In that time Ibn Sina wrote his famous book" Canon" of medicine when he was twenty first.

Old man:-

He became a famous scientist. He was known in the western as Avecinna. Before he died some of his friends advised him to take the life moderation because he worked very hard and he didn't care to his health. Then he said that: "I prefer a short life with width to a narrow one with length". He came back to Hamadan and he died there in 1037 when he was 58.

2-What did he discover.

v Ibn Sina did 450 works as known he did 150 books for philosophy and 40 for medicine.

v Ibn Sinas famous books were "Canon" and "Kittab Al Shifa".

"Canon"

Ibn Sina wrote his famous book "Canon" of medical science when complete twenty first years old in Hamadan. The "Canon" has million words and it's stayed for 600 hundred years at the top of the books of medical science and the "Canon" made a lot of new contributions to anatomy, gynaecology and child health. Its distribution of diseases by water and soil, describing pharmacological methods and describe about 760 drugs. The "Canon" is division to five books the first book is for general principles, the second is for simple drugs arranged alphabetically, the third is for diseases of particular organs and for the body from the head to the foot, the forth is for local diseases which spread to other part of the body like fevers and the fifth is for compound medicine.

v He wrote 99 books most of it in Arabic, 16 books for medicine, 68 for theology and metaphysics, 11 for astronomy and 4 for verse.

"Kittab Alshifa"

Ibn Sina wrote "Alshifa" as philosophical encyclopedia. He based to on Aristotelian traditions to write his book and the book has four parts one of these part devoted in mathematic. He divided mathematics to four parts, geometry, astronomy, arithmetic and music. Ibn Sina includes astronomy and music as branches of mathematics in the encyclopedia.

Some of Ibn Sinas work

He made some astronomical observation and he deduced that the Venus must be closer to the Earth than the Sun.
He invented an instrument for observing the coordinates of a star.
He also correctly stated that it's hard to see the velocity of light is finite.

3-How did Ibn Sina improve the world?

The "canon" for Ibn Sina served as the chief guide to medical science in the west and is said to have influenced Leonardo da Vinci and Dr: William Osler said about the "Canon" of medicine: "A medical bible for a longer time than any other work".

Ibn Sina fundamental contribution to Medicine goes largely unrecognised and he remembered rarely in the west.

Ibn Sina (in the east).

Ibn Sina weren't forgotten in the east and there are some places shows his pictures and some sculptures for Ibn Sina for example:

v The museum in Bukhara displayed many of his writings, surgical instruments and some pictures.

v The Faculty of Medicine in the University of Paris hangs his picture in the hall.

v Some countries today put his pictures on the stamps and currency.
